The B Corp Saalt is a company I co-founded with the mission of taking reusable period care mainstream. While at Saalt, I worked with my creative director to conceptualize and carry out an intervention for Earth Day at Venice Beach.
We collaborated with Los Angeles artist Chase Erachi to paint a giant period cup and art on the art walls of Venice Beach. Our team of employees and volunteer members of our Saalt community cooperated with local street artists on site to prepare the art walls and to plant tampons in the sand—the number of tampons that one person uses in a lifetime. We spent the next two days talking to passers by about reusable period care, and we offered a period cup to anyone wiling to trade us for a tampon or pad and commit to try the period cup. The energy was incredible, and we collected powerful narratives about beach clean up and period poverty.
Intervention was highlighted by Adweek in the 2019 article “How Brands Around the Globe Are Commemorating Earth Day.”
